Navigating Stress and Efficient Learning

It’s that time of the year again, a new semester has just kicked off, and for some of you, it might be your very first one. The start of University life is an exhilarating phase in every student’s journey. It’s like opening a new book filled with possibilities and challenges. However, it can also be a tad overwhelming and stressful. In this blog post, I want to share some personal tips on how to handle the stress that comes with the beginning of your studies, and introduce you to some fantastic apps and websites that have been my trusty companions through countless exams and have simplified my academic life.

1. Dealing with Stress:

The initial stages of University can indeed be stressful as you adapt to new routines, teaching methods, and social environments. So, here’s what I’ve found helpful:

  • Create a Schedule: Start by setting up a schedule to organize your study times, lectures, and leisure activities. Having a well-structured daily plan can work wonders in reducing stress. There’s an app called “Studo” that’s pretty popular for this, but some of us also love having a physical calendar. Personally, I always carry a small calendar in my bag to jot down quick notes and make sure I don’t miss important deadlines.
  • Self-Care Matters: Don’t forget the importance of a good night’s sleep, maintaining a healthy diet, and getting regular exercise. These factors can help you de-stress and boost your concentration. We students tend to cram and pull all-nighters right before exams, often neglecting the essentials like sleep, exercise, and a proper diet. So, always make sure to allocate more time for studying before exams so that you can maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Apps and Websites to Aid Your Learning Journey:

In today’s digital world, there are loads of apps and websites that can make your learning more efficient and enjoyable. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Anki: This app is perfect for creating digital flashcards and practicing facts and concepts. It’s based on proven learning principles.
  • Notion: Notion is a versatile note-taking and organization app that’s great for creating notes, to-do lists, and managing projects.
  • Forest: If you find it challenging to stay focused on your tasks, Forest can be your savior. The app locks your smartphone for a set period, ensuring you can work undisturbed. (Admit it, we all sneakily check our phones when studying and get distracted.)
  • Coursera and edX: These platforms provide a wide range of online courses from renowned universities worldwide. They’re a fantastic way to expand your knowledge and acquire new skills.

The start of your college journey may seem overwhelming, but with the right strategies and resources, you can successfully navigate this exciting phase. Remember, everyone has their own unique learning style that works best for them. So, don’t hesitate to experiment with various apps and techniques to find what’s most effective for you.
